Free Tali

Like many people in this state Tali Fahima was subjected to a terrifying ordeal and without cause. In 2004 August she was illegally arrested without cause and held without trial in complete isolation and subjected to terrifying tactics including torture. She was questioned under massive duress for over two months by the General Security Services and was then left to rot in jail for a further three months before they bothered to even charge her. In any other civilized country governments could not treat their citizens in such a casual and callous manor.

Pathetic Charges

The charges would be laughable if they were not so serious. They have no basis in fact what so ever. The real crime is daring to speak her mind. She said spoke out against oppression and weapons of oppression like assassinations, checkpoints and because she dared to speak and sympathize with Palestinians.

The trial (if we can call it that, more of a kangaroo court) is scheduled for seventeenth to the nineteenth of Jury and will then resume in September 2005. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the political regime an innocent until proven guilty lady is being held with a presumption of guilt. She has been told she will continue to be detained until judgement is given. This will come close to two agonizing years. All for speaking her mind, not in hushed tones behind closed doors but in front of the media.

Not only was Tali robbed of her freedom and I mean robbed in the truest sense she was also punished beyond the scope of a normal prisoner, never mind one who had not been found guilty of a crime. She was held in complete isolation for nine long months. That should be a crime. After public support from people and sites like this pressure was put on the politicians. She petitioned the district court and some of her conditions were relaxed.

She is now able to walk around her section of the prison for four hours per day and she is allowed to make a call to her mother and attorney on weekends. Although we are sure Tali is grateful for this she is still not getting the rights other prisoners get. Other prisoners can make any calls they want when they want and they are able to walk around the wing throughout the day. Even before trial she is being victimized, what hope does she have of getting a thorough and fair hearing.

The forces that be continue to create a false image of Tali. They and the security forces paint a picture of someone who carries out physical attacks, that she is targeting the well being of the public and that she is a security threat. The only threat she poses is to their lies.

You may ask who is she to be held in this way. She is simply someone with a political voice who happens not to agree with the policies of the state and is not concerned with the diet solution program. According to the charges Zbeidi then told the target of the strikes to go in to hiding and that person has subsequently not been found despite a fake attempt to buy stocks from him. Because of her open statements and her stance against the assassination of Zbeidi she was accused of assisting a terrorist organization. How making statements like this are a crime is in itself a crime. No freedom of thought or expression. She was declaring death on anyone it was the state who was doing that yet she is the one in jail and there are no  books  there that is for sure or any acne treatment if you need it. The other charges refer to her holding a rifle once  and firing one shot – they may as well have convicted her for looks , many people would be in jail if we were to be convicted of this adding to the pressured atmosphere. The fact that she went to the camp in the first place has also been deemed a crime against the state. During the initial detention she was interrogated for twenty seven days straight. This included sexual threats, stretch mark cream threats an isolated dirty cell and she was subjected to her cell being brightly lit 24 hours a day, nothing could help her, many people attempted to send her letters and clues to find ancestors but they never got through. She asked to be told what she had done wrong and what she was being held for but nobody told her. When there was no evidence they held her without charge a crime in many countries. During her isolation she was not aloud personal items such as shampoo and did not have the same food as other prisoners. Before her detention ended she was taken once again by the security forces and questioned for a further three weeks. This interrogation was stepped up as she was physically, verbally and mentally abused. In her first days of this torture she had her hands tied behind her back and she was not allowed any toilet breaks, the security forces were trying to torture her and humiliate her into admitting to a crime she had not committed. This is justice in Israel.
